Planetary Harvest’s REVI Prototype Bay
Demonstrates Leafy and Root Vegetable Production
in 100% Biochar Media

The Most Natural Way To Grow Indoors

Planetary Harvest’s Remote Environment Vegetable Incubator (REVI) was designed literally from the ground up.
While most vertical farms utilize hydroponic systems we sought a simpler solution (avoiding the pumps, valves, meters and digital devices of hydroponics).

Terra preta soil, ‘Black Earth’, was created by Amazonian indigenous populations over 2,000 years ago.
To this day, these ancient Terra Preta soils in the Amazon Basin have retained their fertility  combined with the indigenous peoples’ practices of continuous organic matter enrichment.

At the heart of Terra preta soils is biochar.
Biochar is a highly porous carbon material made from forest residues.

Biochar provides a permanent, well aerated growth media with superior nutrient retention, water-holding capacity, and beneficial microbial ecosystems.
We add the fertilizer and organic compost, REVI provides the water, the plants do the rest.

‘It’s the most natural way to grow indoors’™

We are excited to see our two-story REVI prototype produce a variety of nutrient-dense root and vegetable crops, protein crops, leafy greens and herbs.
It validates a lot of hard work performed by the team.

Our scale-up work continues with a 2 bay retrofit into the Oilfields High School vertical farm in Diamond Valley Alberta.
In addition, a pilot location is being sought for the construction and pre-commercial operations of a 2 storey 12 bay system to test REVI’s unique exoskeleton design and enterprise management software.

Our journey to rural and remote communities continues…
